Wonderful book

This is a very accessible and efficient anatomy book and what I would recommend first to any medical students. I find class and lab much easier if I first read the BRS book and try to get a basic overview. The biggest strength of this book is a review that helps integrate muscles, nerves, vessels, and actions, while also giving clinical correlates.

Seriously the most helpful resource I have for my anatomy class as a first year medical student. Use it in conjunction with an atlas, to have a visual guide, but the board-style questions are invaluable.

this book has great explanations. its is a very helpful addition to anatomy studying. my only complaint would be that as a review book it seems a bit more detailed than I expected. so it can be a bit overwhelming. otherwise its great!

Good Advice . . And Great Positions!

Of the numerous `threesome' books which appear to be crowding the market right now, this one is easily my favorite.

It doesn't have a lot of pretty four-color photos. (In fact, it doesn't have any.) But it does contain a lot of good, solid advice on how to make one's threesome musings a reality.

Fantasizing about threesomes is the very first topic, and the tome starts off with a few lurid tales to get one's juices flowing.

The first half of the book basically assumes that the desire is real (and valid) and proceeds to provide helpful tips on how to deal with the emotional side of having a threesome - such as how to communicate one's desires (to one's partner or `third wheel'), how to establish boundaries (ahead of time, hopefully), and how to deal with possible jealousies (all around) - to name but a few of the issues discussed.

It's not until the middle of the text, though - that the author deals with the "queerness" factor - by highlighting how a (two-girl) threesome can be a relatively safe and more comfortable means by which to fulfill our own same sex desires (which I found to be quite helpful, especially since most of the threesomes imagined by couples will be of the girl/girl/boy type, anyway).

It's in this `queerness' section where the author (a woman) also tosses out the initials, "L-I-T" - which stands for "Lesbian (only) in Threesomes" - which I thought was really cute (and reassuring).

There are some male and female anatomical diagrams as a refresher course; and a few pages encouraging women to go slow with each other, especially since our arousal takes more time (which is in definite contrast to situations involving two guys - where getting out of the starting blocks will typically be much quicker).

Lastly, in terms of the basics, there are a few brief reminders about hygiene, cleanliness - and STD's - which are, of course, sexually transmitted diseases.

The book really hits its stride, though - when it gets to (sexual) positions - in a chapter entitled `Joy of (Sex)3' (to the third power).

If you've ever watched porn, many of these geometries (in line drawings only) will be familiar, especially the ones with two guys (where the lone gal always seems to have at least two of her orifices occupied at any given time).

But it's the depictions of the two-girl threesomes - which I found to be really refreshing (and romantic) - with many of them encouraging women to engage affectionately with each other - to a degree I've not seen on screen (but would love to!).

For example, there are several positions which have the women hugging and kissing (each other) - while the man pleasures himself with one (or both) of the gals (normally from above or behind).

Having the females kiss - actually has several advantages. It's an easier way for the girls to begin to fulfill (a portion) of their same-sex desire - without having to be fully responsible for each other's sexual satisfaction. For the clever (and acrobatic) male - it can also be fun and challenging method for enjoying both women (in quick succession) in a manner which keeps them both occupied (and entertained) - while simultaneously reassuring them of their (underlying) heterosexuality.

In one of the `girls-kissing' postures, the ladies do so - while lying on top of the guy - who is on the floor underneath them (and supporting all of their weight). The author hilariously calls this position - the "nut crusher." (Yikes!)

Other variations have the women embracing front-to-back (such as when kneeling one-behind-the-other over the edge of the bed). Kissing each other over-the-shoulder isn't as convenient, granted. But having both ladies facing in the same direction - keeps their splayed legs and knees more orderly - making it easier for the guy to go back-and-forth between them. (Oh, now I get it!)

Advancing to the next level (of female enjoyment and participation), there are several situations - where one woman orally copulates with another. Some are daisy chain variations - where the girl in the middle (either face-up or face-down) orally pleasures the gal in front of her - as her guy enjoys himself (within her) towards her other end.

In a slightly more challenging geometry -- the female in the middle kneels and positions her center over the other gal's face - as her man fornicates with the babe (being orally copulated) from the back. (Ladies, for those of you -- who have difficulty achieving an orgasm while having sex with your guy - this position might be a godsend!)

The most advanced situations (bisexually speaking), for me - are two classics where both women perform cunnilingus on each other. One, of course, is a daisy chain triangle - where each participant concentrates orally on the male or female in front of them. And a second has the two ladies engaging in a sixty-nine - as the guy partakes in the girl on top from behind. (Being either the gal up above - or below - may be a truly heady experience, indeed!)

To conclude, if you're looking for an entertaining and informative way - to heighten your fantasies (or realities) regarding threesomes (of all types) - `The Threesome Handbook' is one that I would highly recommend. Enjoy.

Hilarious and helpful

As someone who spends a lot of time reading and writing about sex, it's always such a treat to find a book like this amongst the rubble. Vicki not only gives heaps of enlightening information on the logistics, psychology and emotions surrounding the almighty threesome, but she does so as a great writer. After reading this I'd pretty much read anything she chose to write about. She is quite the talent (and anyone who names sexual positions such things as "Old Time Carriage Ride" and "Quilting Bee" is someone I want to know). A great read, informative and really hot. Threesomes can be tricky and this is the best book I've seen out there on how to successfully navigate the territory.

Swinging Good Times!

Interesting read. Very good guide on how to expand your horizons with your significant other. Many tips and suggested ground rules for making your twosome a threesome. Regardless, if you are looking for a playmate or a long term third this guide has plenty of information to cover all aspects including the pros and cons of playmates and thirds. In order for successful "swinging" you and your mate must be in a very good relationship without any hints of jealousy before even considering this book as your personal how-to. Vicki did a phenomenal job in her research and dove deep into answering some of the most "embarrassing" questions for starters to ask. There are even diagrams for certain positions that are suggested to ensure that you nail it on the first try. Don't be shy- have your mind piqued and probed as you and you mate discuss your fantasies!

A range of approaches from semiotics to postcolonial theory are discussed, and Gill asks how useful notions such as objectification, backlash, and positive images are for making sense of gender in today's Western media. Finally, Gender and the Media also raises questions about cultural politics - namely, what forms of critique and intervention are effective at a moment when ironic quotation marks seem to protect much media content from criticism and when much media content - from Sex and the City to revenge adverts - can be labelled postfeminist.

Eschewing a straightforwardly positive or negative assessment the book explores the contradictory character of contemporary gender representations, where confident expressions of girl power sit alongside reports of epidemic levels of anorexia among young women, moral panics about the impact on men of idealized representations of the 'six-pack', but near silence about the pervasive re-sexualization of women's bodies, along with a growing use of irony and playfulness that render critique extremely difficult.

About the Author
Neil Challis was born in Cambridge, UK. He studied mathematics at the University of Bristol and subsequently worked for some years as a mathematician in the British Gas Engineering Research Station at Killingworth. Since 1977, he has worked in the Mathematics Group, Sheffield Hallam University, UK and is currently head of that group. He obtained a PhD in mathematics from the University of Sheffield in 1988 and has taught mathematics to a wide variety of students, across the spectrum from first year engineers and other non-mathematicians who need access to mathematical ideas, techniques and thinking, to final year single honours mathematics students.

Harry Gretton was born in Leicester, UK. He studied mathematics at the University of Sheffield, obtaining his PhD from there in 1970. He has taught mathematics sciences since then, both at Sheffield University and Sheffield Hallam University, and has been a tutor with the Open University since it was conceived. He has taught many varied students on many varied mathematically-related courses. In recent years he has developed a particular interest in the impact of technology on the way mathematics is taught, practiced and assessed.

A Noebel Book

This is an excellent defense of the Christian worldview in contrast to such anti-Christian ideologies as secular humanism and Marxism. David Noebel looks at different worldviews and their view of economics, government and law. The best part of the book is how Noebel presents a biblical worldview of these various realms of life. One thing I liked about this book, is how he shows the consequences of our worldviews, and if we don't get to the root and foundation of society's problems, we will never have an answer to resolve them. This book gave me a good understanding of how a Christian should think about economics and law. Highly recommended.

Absolutely vital reading for... everyone!

I don't give out five stars easily, but I would say that this could be the most important book a Christian--or anyone who thinks they are a Christian, or is considering becoming one--can read today. I say this as a former zealously liberal secular humanist who was comitted to the viewpoints accurately criticized in this volume.

In a clear and concise manner, Mr. Noebel summarizes the opinions and value systems of four of the most prevalent world views today: Secular Humanism, Marxism/Leninism, Cosmic Humanism, and Biblical Christianity. Most impressive to me is that he does this largely by using the very words of the major proponents of these worldviews. This book would be worth the price just for the collection of quotes from some these historic opponents of the Christian world view. The case they make against themselves is devastating!

This book is apparently an abridgement of the book "Understanding The Times," but it is also significantly updated to include a full treatment of the newly evolving world view of Cosmic Humanism, otherwise known as the New Age Movement. Of the two books, I would recommend starting with this one.

You can rest assured that this book will be positively trashed by anyone holding to a secular viewpoint (see the reviews of other books by this author). I would encourage open-minded people, however, to challenge themselves with these questions:

(1) How do I view this world I live in?
(2) What influences caused me to have this view?
(3) Does this view ultimately make sense?

I also challenge Christians to re-educate themselves on the competing views that are out there. You might be amazed to find out how some of these views may have even subliminally infiltrated your own thinking. Identifying the sources of these ideas could be invaluable for the edification of your own biblical faith and perception of our world.

Simplistic, if clear

Veteran preacher David Noebel, best known for his anti-rock music crusades of the 1960s, shows to those who believe him that he has not in any way given up his commitment to a traditionalist Christian worldview. Although it is fair to say that he has matured considerably with respect to the way in which he treats important issues such as Marxism, there is no doubt that this book is heavily flawed in the way in which it links Marxism and Stalinism - despite the thetoric which Noebel is so fond of quoting, many on the left deny (with good reason) that Stalin, Mao or Khrushchev have anything to do with Marxism. Moreover, why does Noebel fail to discuss fascism or secular nationalism in this context: these ideologies are certainly as hostile to Christianity as Marxism?

The same is true with "Cosmic Humanism": whilst it is in many ways highly refreshing to see this worldview, adhered to today by a great many religious organisations, attacked with such clarity for failing to adhere in any way to traditional Christianity, Noebel does not look at where its adherents at the very least claim to draw their inspiration from: he sees "Cosmic Humanism" as perhaps rather more modern in origin that it actually is. In this process, he is far too Western-centred to really see that today there exists no concerted opposition to secular humanism outside of Australia, Red America and some developing nations, or that the most extreme form of secular humanism threaten the very future of the West as we know it.

However, the very fact that, perhaps contrary to what most students and similar people believe, secular humanism really is not compatible with traditional Western culture and the values of Christianity is shown more effectively in this book than any place before. Noebel is, with the wisdom of age, able to show how biblical Christianity is different in many clear ways from humanistic worldviews in a way that could easily be read by the most inexperienced reader on the subject. This makes the book of considerable use for those who wish to understand why the religious right want to complain about today's society.

Biased, one-sided, but showing an author's long-term commitment to a different society with remarkable clarity.

Very good.

This book has not only information about the mathematics in the linear regression analysis (LR), but also a lot of information on best practices, much of what was an eyeopener to me. In this regard, IMO, the best parts of the book are the sections dealing with:

* Qualitative variates in a regression.- The best is the use of "indicators" and not "allocated codes". I'd have used allocated codes as far as my intuition goes. This book explains well why indicators are the best choice.
* Multicollinearity.- How to detect it and deal with it. What are the implications of having strong correlation between predictors.
* LR in time series data.- Correlation in the errors often appears when applying LR to time series data. The author explains this is mainly due to a predictor missing in the model -adding that predictor would solve it. When not possible -and believe me, many times it's not possible, you have to incorporate the correlation structure in the model. In my experience, correlations in time series data are just ubiquitous, they even appear depending on such a things as the sampling rate of your instruments! So, this chapter was the most useful for me.

There are also other topics covered that I've already seen in other books, including variable selection, variance stabilization, evaluation of the model, etc.

The flaw: In the chapter of Polynomial regression, when the author talk about the possibility of using orthogonal polynomials, there is no sound theory on the construction of orthogonal polynomials, and the reader is referred to Seber's Linear Regression Analysis. Seber's book has the info (Chebyshev polynomials, and so on) yet it feels quite a dry read to me. So, the fact you have to go to other book to apply some technique described in Montgomery's book is not good, this is the reason for 4/5 stars. I still prefer Montgomery's book.

Wiley needs a proofreader fantastically

This was used as the textbook in a course in Linear Regression
Analysis that I recently attended as an auditor. I'm a mathematician,
not a statistician, so much of the material, and the authors' ways of
looking at it, were not familiar to me. My statistician colleagues
assure me that the techniques in the book are correct, useful, and
mostly up to date. And I believe them.

Alas, the book is poorly edited, and in just the few chapters we
covered, I found a score of errors, including misstated formulas,
misplaced graphics, multiplication where there should be division, and
even some numerical errors. If you, as an instructor, decide to adopt
this book for your course, be prepared to do a lot of proofreading
(the publisher apparently didn't bother) and to distribute textbook
corrections to your students. Also note that this book, like so many
Wiley textbooks, is overpriced.

A good book with industrial applications

very useful for industrial applications. There are quite a few printing mistakes and that would be a problem for those reader they are not very strong in statistics.
