About the Author
Guy Haley began his career on SFX Magazine in 1997 before leaving to edit Games Workshop’s White Dwarf, followed by the SF magazine Death Ray. Since 2009 he has been a wandering writer, working in both magazines and novels. He lives in Somerset with his wife and son, a malamute and a an enormous, evil-tempered Norwegian Forest Cat called, ironically, Buddy.

"Skarsnik, Skarsnik, Skarsnik!"

I DEVOURED this book. It's been a long time since I've felt such sheer joy reading. No doubt I am a bit biased because I've been a Warhammer Orcs and Goblins aficionado all my life, and I've been waiting for the Black Library to finally break down and throw us greenskin fans a bone. Well, SKARSNIK was more than just a bone, it was a meaty fleshroom banquet that answers all sorts of lingering questions about how greenskins survive, thrive, and, yes, even reproduce.

The heart of the story is the autobiography of Skarsnik, Warlord of Karak Eight Peaks, and the most powerful Night Goblin in history. His tale, though, is nestled like a matryoshka in a series of framing tale to the point where the reader is never quite sure how much of the account is true, how much is Skarsnik embellishing, how much is lost in the game of whisper-down-the-lane, and how much is just pure shaggy dog story. Skarsnik told Bickenstadt the mad playwright, Bickenstadt told Wollendorp the greenskin academic, and Wollendorp's story was recounted by the almost entirely offscreeen Guido Kleinfeld. At first I wasn't sure what the point was of having so many framing stories, but when Haley finally pulls the rug out from under you in the last chapter, I realized it wouldn't have the same impact any other way.

Still, at the core this is the story of a goblin, perhaps the greatest goblin of his age, but a goblin nonetheless. And in that Haley achieves something remarkable. He reclaims goblins from the ranks of comic relief and puts them on full display as sadistic, lunatic monsters and yet somehow still makes us root for one of them. Skarsnik's long, hard road from the runtiest of runts to the mightiest of warlords (cowing even Orc bosses like Gorfang Rotgut) is a fascinating ride. I can't recommend it highly enough for any fans of fantasy, but this should be mandatory reading for Warhammer Orc and Goblin players.

Comic relief turns out to be a sadistic, power mad little bastard!

Picked up Skarsnik on a dare (if such a think exists with Warhammer novels). There was a long plane ride ahead of me as well as another boring week in Canberra.
I had low expectations of the book honestly. Goblins have never been that exciting and I wasn't sure how the story would be written. Let me tell you that I was sadly mistaken and would warn others against making the same assumption.
The book is a riveting tale of one small Goblin's rise to power told in a most interesting fashion. At this point, I honestly don't want to give too much detail to spoil the story.
I will say that Skarsnik is a vile and evil little bastard and the book helps to reinforce the utter evil that Goblins really are. As a gamer I dismiss the Goblin race as comic relief; Skarsnik will change that. They are a race of lunatics driven by crazy sadistic urges. Their lives are often short and incredibly brutal. I have to admit that amongst the army of vicious little buggers I was still rooting for Skarsnik as the anti-protagonist ... an antagonist with no protagonist to go up against? Except for the rest of his race trying to kill or beat him into submission.

Thus far, the definitive examination of the mindset of the Greenskin race... and one helluva fun story! It's great for fantasy buffs that love Orcs, Orks, Goblins or any other creature like that. They aren't often featured in stories as they are usually used as punch lines. In this story, there is plenty of dark and snark humor... but it's the goblins at do as much of the punching as anyone else. For what it is, it's the best around.

Examining the crises....

An appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers

Since the 1980s approximately, if not some time before, sovereign debt has emerged as a well-nigh intractable international problem. Writing in the foreword to this thoughtful and scholarly examination of sovereign debt, John B Taylor of Stanford University refers to trenchant observations made by the book’s erudite and world renowned co-author Lee Buchheit to the effect that ‘there are several key common elements in sovereign debt crisis, whether in emerging economies, or in some of the more advanced European countries today. ‘You can see these elements,’ remarks Taylor ‘in all the chapters of this book.’

Published recently by the Oxford University Press, the book, in the words of its co-author Rosa Lastra presents ‘a general treatise on sovereign debt management’ and contains no less than twenty-eight learned articles replete with the carefully researched analyses of no less than thirty-six expert contributors, mainly from top international law practices, government agencies and leading academic institutions.

Their impressive slate of practical experience says Lastra, includes lending, borrowing, regulating, analyzing restructuring and litigating sovereign debt. The idea for the book was the fortunate outcome of the meeting of the International Monetary Law Committee in Rome in 2011 – this being a standing committee of the International Law Association.

Easy to navigate, the book includes a detailed table of contents, a useful index and extensive tables of cases and of legislation. To say that the book is a brilliant and time-saving research tool is a bit of an understatement, for the amount of research contained in this single volume is truly mind-bending.

We lost count of the number of journals cited in the footnotes, but we would estimate over a hundred. This is certainly an invaluable source of wisdom and insight into the thorny problems created by international debt which now afflicts developed as well as emerging countries -- plus, there is considerable emphasis on postulating its causes and possible cures.

The various articles, particularly those by Buchheit -- who originally trained as a philosopher before reading law -- and for whom this book is a tribute -- will provide much food for thought on sovereign debt in particular and debt in general. ‘Borrowing money, he says in the book’s final article ‘can become a hideous addiction’ further pointing out that democracies in particular, struggle with the grim realities.

By the way, the fascinating biographical note on Buchheit is well worth reading. Appropos the Scottish referendum and the ongoing secessionist problems of the Ukraine, it is interesting and strangely topical to note the title of his thesis published by Yale University Press in the 70s: ‘Secession: the Legitimacy of Self-Determination’, which focused on, for example, Katanga, Biafra, the Kurds and Bangladesh.

Suffice to say that this book should attract a wide readership, not merely of lawyers, but economists, of course, as well as commentators, policy makers and politicos worldwide.

The first time I heard of Guy Duininck was from his brother Joe. Joe said that he honestly thought Guy was the best Bible teacher he knew of. I thought to myself "Yeah sure." But after I heard Guy speak, I had to agree with Joe. There is a purity to Guy's teaching. It seems to have a high Word content. After listening to him you feel "I've been washed by the Word!" I have heard Guy speak from morning till night for a week. He didn't tire and neither did I. In each session I was disappointed when he stopped.

I consider all of Guy's teaching on grace to be essential for every believer. The view's into grace that I learned from Guy have become pillars in my understanding of scripture and approach to life.

Grace for Effectual Ministry is for those in so called full time ministry, yes. But God expects every believer to minister and so in many ways every believer is a full time minister and this book is for every believer. God will reward your service. Their outside lives suffer: Kuki is demoted to an even more demeaning position in his company, while Rinko's family disowns her. A look at the Japanese view of love

I knew the ending of this book before I bought it, but I still wanted to find out why I had heard so much about it, so I bought it. It is a beautiful story of middle aged love and how two people not from my own culture handle the situation. The story deals with eroticism, love, seduction, and the subsequent quilt of cheating on a spouse. I didn't agree with how the protagonists dealt with their situation but Wantanabe delves into their minds and souls so completly that their fate is understandable. The author made me feel as if I was there with them and inside their heads as they enjoyed each and every experience they shared, all the way to the end.

Mr. Watanabe has thrown paradise at us in the form of a book. "A Lost Paradise" is a wonderful story of love, passion and obsession. It's well written and well crafted and flows like the waves of a calm ocean gently awaking emotions each time they caress the shore. Mr. Watanabe presents us with a story of Kiko and Rinko who are two souls lucky enough to find that elusive "true love" in each other, only to realize all to quickly its frailty. The perspective of love presented is truly eastern in flavor and that makes it that much more endeering and enticing and exciting. A story like this places itself snugly with the likes of Shirin & Farhad, Zulekha and her lover, Jahangir and Anarkali.

The other commenter that said the book is about porn didn't give enough credit to the author. He created magnificent scenes and imagery with his prose. Yes, there was a lot of lovemaking described in detail in it but it was all about the love the two character shared. This book has haunted me since I was an undergrad. Please read it with an open mind.

Incredibly Good Book on Nutrition with Diet Tips Added

THe book is 256 pages long and it takes the form of Dr. Reuban's previous sex books (Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex but Were Afraid to Ask.etc). A person basically asks a questions in bold headings and he answers it with a wide variet of wit and style. It feels just like Dr. Reuban is right there talking to you the person.
The book premise is very simple. The majority of the things the media tells us is wrong. Very wrong. So wrong that he tells us that much of our diseases and troubles involving the body (cancer, diabetes,etc) can be prevented if we simply take the precautinos he tells us in this book. His diet, or what you can do to be healthy can be summed up in one sentence:Eat food in their natural form, these being fruits and vegetables, and other forms of food in their natural form. He rants on the FDA and The Food Industry. He makes the Food Industry into monsters.
The book is good. Very good in fact that I gave it five stars for I totally agree with the premise that the main thing causing for Americans, including me, to become unhealthy is simply the additives and preservatives added. Reuban goes on to say that the chemicals found in our food cause cancer and even sperm count. He also says in the book that the reason non-industrialized countries like Georgia have much less of cancer and diabetes is because their food is natural.
To sum up his diet: Eat things in their natural form regardless of the fat. Don't buy food where the ingrediants are unpronunciable. Don't buy refined sugar, or enriched bread. Don't drink soda. I recommend you also get his other book: The Save-Your-Life Diet. Don't worry if its out of print. It can probaby be found in a used book store.

Everything You Always Wanted To Know-Nutrition by Reuben MD

The author is a proponent of the health food diet regimen.
He recommends not to consume junk food in order to minimize vitamin deficiencies. The work explains the following about
vitamins, cooking and canning:
o 30% of vitamins are lost in cooking/canning
o 25% of the vitamin content is lost in sterilization
o 27% of vitamins are lost in sterilization
o 12% is lost when you heat the contents of a can
In addition, the book promotes Vitamin B. Fried liver provides
vitamin A. Lemon juice is a good source of the vitamin C.
Brewer's yeast and B12 magnifies the B 12 vitamin. He explains
that natural vitamins are better than synthetic vitamins.
Soil impacts vitamins. Too much iron can produce fatal E-coli
whereas too little dietary vitamin can result in general lethargy. Dietary iron is in meat, whole wheat and whole bran.
This book is an excellent value for any health professional
or enthusiast.

A truth-packed book with facts & no fiction about nutrition.

I read Dr. Reuben's book 20 years ago to answer some questions I had about the big vitamin fad that was happening. Unfortunately, I did not read his book in its entirety, but got the answers I was searching for - - mainly that I did not need suppliments, but that a year's supply of vitamins would fill a thimble. Today I am in a nutritional Ph.d. program, and thought I should revisit Dr. Reuben's book. I could not put the book down. It has humor and an honest approach to a subject that it is impossible to find the truth because everyone wants a piece of my pocketbook! I laughed, I cried in horror at the things I read. I am grateful that Dr. Reuben was brave enough to tell the Emerior he had no clothes. You will regret NOT reading this book!

About the Author

Gail E. Tompkins is Professor Emerita at California State University, Fresno. Currently, she works with teachers in their kindergarten through eighth-grade classrooms and leads staff-development programs on reading and writing. Dr. Tompkins was inducted into the California Reading Association’s Reading Hall of Fame in recognition of her accomplishments in the field of reading, and she’s received the prestigious Provost’s award for Excellence in Teaching at California State University, Fresno. Dr. Tompkins is the author of six other books published by Pearson: Language Arts: Patterns of Practice, Language Arts Essentials, Teaching Writing: Balancing Process and Product, 50 Literacy Strategies, and two grade-specific versions of this text: Li teracy in the Early Grades: A Successful Start for PreK-4 Readers and Writers and Literacy in the Middle Grades: Teaching Reading and Writing to Fourth Through Eighth Graders. During the past three decades, Dr. Tompkins has also worked with kindergarten through college-level writing teachers at National Writing Project sites in California and Oklahoma.
