From a Point of View that makes you think..What IF??

This book was sitting on a co-workers desk. I was curious so i picked it up and couldn't put it down. I read it cover to cover before the co-worker returned from lunch. Very good read. Three short stories that sum up the world we live and have lived in from a point of view that has never been told before. Highly Recomended!!!!

Read it from cover to cover without a break. Author keeps the reader very involved. Each story told is both realistic and believable. I felt like I was part of the story. The statistics at the end were very shocking and reminds us of the world we live in. Will be reading it again to catch anything I may have missed...

About the Author
OSAMU A. WAKITA is Professor of Architecture and Department Chair of Architecture at Los Angeles Harbor College. He has been involved in architectural education since 1958. He is the recipient of the California Council of the American Institute of Architects' prestigious Outstanding Architectural Educators Award and is listed in the Council Generals Reference as one of the leading authorities in perspective drawing. He also designs a number of custom residences each year.

RICHARD M. LINDE, AIA, is a licensed architect in California, Arizona, and Hawaii, and President of his own architectural firm, Richard M. Linde & Associates, Inc. Mr. Linde has provided architectural services internationally and in the various states in which he is licensed to practice. He is an authority on industrialized housing and is a former president of the American Institute of Architects, Cabrillo Chapter. Mr. Linde is the coauthor of The Professional Handbook of Architectural Detailing.

Great resource, even for CAD drafters

I bought this book when my younger brother started taking CAD classes to come work with me. I have found it to be an excellent resource, for the beginning draftsman, for putting together a set of plans. For the intermediate and advanced draftsman it is a valuable "checklist" book. The book only has one small section on CAD, but that is not the idea of the book.
This book will show you what is needed to be in a good set of plans. It has many examples of drawings and details and with good explanations for them. The explanations given also help you to understand what is being shown, but also why it is being shown. Having been in construction for over 20 years before I started drafting, I can say that the examples given are the types of drawings I wish came out to my jobs. You will be able to understand what information needs to be in your drawings, how to graphically show it. You will also be able to move around in the book and go to examples for whichever phase you are working on in your drawings and compare what you have done with what is given in the book.

No matter what level of draftsman you are, I would recommend this book. It will be an invaluable resource for you for years to come.

This book sets the standards for professionals in the architecture field!!! Well done. I've never seen a book so comprehensive as this one for the field of architecture. This book does what Graphic Standards never did or CAN. It gives architects an easier way to communicate their ideas with effective working drawing techniques and detailing logic! A must-see for every student of architecture or professional who owns a drafting table...even applies to CAD drawings!!!

Twinning activities based on a problem-based approach have been performed in four case river basins: * Tunga Bahdra (2 states in India), * Sesan (Vietnam/Cambodia), * Glomma (Norway), * Tejo/Tagus (Spain/Portugal) The problems covered are water regimes in transboundary regulated rivers; environmental flow; land and water use interaction; and pollution under the IWRM framework. The research used sub-basins of each river basin in all cases to allow more detailed studies and easier integration of all stakeholders, for transferability purposes. Strategy and Methodology for Improved IWRM * develops guidelines for interdisciplinary methods to assess and implement IWRM * assessese the transferability of case study results * enhances the dialogue between decision-makers, stakeholders and scientists * disseminates data and information to stakeholders to promote participatory planning and integrated decision-making, taking adequate account of the rights of poor people and gender roles

Three radical, often brilliant novellas

These three novellas by Japenese Marxist and modernist Kobayashi Takiji are prominent examples of the Japanese proletarian literature and arts "golden age" of the 1920s to the early 30s. They are translated with sensitivity and verve by Zeljko Cipris, Professor of Japanese Literature at University of the Pacific. I've never read proletarian literature before and these novellas are a revelation. They're so different from any other literature that one can find being published today. The latter tends to be allergic to any openly political themes. Not Takiji's books. The political, and specifically, a commitment to revolutionary socialism, are openly and boldly expressed, the characters and plots revolving around proletarian struggles against reaction in all its forms. Thus the texts can ostensibly come across as somewhat dogmatic, as "das Kapital" put to prose fiction, to adapt an acid remark that Kurt Weill made about Bertolt Brecht. But to read these texts as merely propaganda in the form of fiction would miss their complexity and subtlety. Not that Takiji would necessarily dismiss the term propraganda, writing as he was for, and to raise the consciousness and courage of, a proletarian audience. That being said, Takiji's exploration of the relationship between war, nationalism, capitalist exploitation, and the daily lives of working class fighters, along with those growing into revolutionary consciousness, yield insights into not only contemporary Japanese society during the interwar years, but are so totally different from what liberal culture considers to be literature as to make these novellas worth reading just for that reason. Also, as Cipris says in his translator's introduction, "in addition to being enlightening,Takiji's highly readable oeuvre may even inspire some readers to action!" This text can be usefully read by socialist reading groups as well as by "uncommitted" readers for pleasure. The parallels that Takiji highlights between interwar Japanese bourgeois "identity politics" and those which shape - not always positively - progressive and socialist politics in the US today, are haunting.

As the novels privilege social message over style and plot, this will likely be of interest primarily to the student of protest literature or of Japanese socio-political history, rather than to the general reader.
