About the Author
Jenny Robertson was born in 1963 to an Irish mother and a Scottish father in Derbyshire UK and immigrated to Australia in 1970 at the age of six and a half. Arriving in Perth Western Australia her family relocated to a remote mining town in the Pilbara, Port Hedland where she spent her childhood. After leaving home at the age of 16, Jenny spent many years moving from place to place around Australia and in 2000 decided to move to the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland. A single mother with her two children, they eventually settled in the picturesque town of Malanda until her children finished school and left home to pursue their own careers. These days, Jenny is quite settled on a small rural property with her partner Gary just outside of Malanda, though she admits the wandering gypsy running through her veins tugs at her occasionally. Jenny has been an avid volunteer and advocate for many community groups and organisations including youth issues, festivals and theatre as well as Telethon fundraising. She is well known and loved by many as “The Herbal Gypsy” or “Gypsy Jen”, and is renowned for her “Gypsy Chocolate Chai” as well as her mad antics on stage playing “Bluegrass” spoons. Jenny runs workshops, seminars and courses on Numerology, Self-Awareness, Personal Development and Spiritual Self-Help as well as a program she founded called “Who Am I?” At 49 years old Jenny suffered 2 heart attacks and underwent a quadruple bypass which set her on a whole new path of self-discovery. She believes her heart just got too worn out and needed a good overhaul so she could start again. The following year she was finally made it back to Ireland to reunite with her mother’s side of the family after forty four years. On a second trip she was able to live there for a few months “reclaiming her Irish heritage” and getting to know her family more. She believes brutal truth and a great sense of humour are the keys to understanding what she calls her “Karmic journey” and the harsh challenges that she chose for herself in this life. In typical Gypsy Jen style she intends to chase her higher self with a baseball bat yelling “what were you thinking?” when she finally crosses over to the other side. Jenny is currently working on her second book, and saving hard to return to the UK. “Whatever life has in store for me these days I know I am definitely not alone. Isn’t that exciting?” she laughs with a twinkle in her eye.

Be prepared for the biggest emotional roller coaster of your life, this story will make you laugh, cry, get angry but also inspire you in ways you never thought possible, Karina's Song amazing heart breaking story that at times leaves you scattered but I recommend to everyone read this book, as it may just change your life.

Good, but not Susan's Best

I'm a longtime romance fan who has learned over the years to be wary of rereleases because they usually can't live up to the author's newest work and you wind up being disappointed. I think that's the case with Obsessed, which is a good book, and is worth checking out, but will disappoint you if you're looking for the quality/level of Susan Andersen's latest works.
I'm a Susan Andersen fan, and Obsessed contains all the elements that make her writing so much fun for me: hot cranky hero, smart, "sassy" heroine, great banter and dialogue between all the characters (not just the heroine/hero), and HOT sex scenes. The emotional baggage the characters carry is well drawn and the suspense is creepy enough to live with you after the book is finished and sitting on the bookshelf again. The rapist theme itself is handled sensitively.
The main problem I had with Obsessed is that it feels like a retread of some of Ms. Andersen's other books. In actuality, since this one was published first, the opposite is probably true. This book doesn't feel as well developed or as cohesive as Exposure or Baby, I'm Yours, but has a lot of the same plot/character devices. It is very similar to Present Danger in feel, an Andersen rerelease that I think was a better book overall.
If you're an Andersen fan already, then you'll want to read Obsessed to keep your collection complete, and it's worth it as long as you don't expect too much. If you haven't read anything by Ms. Andersen yet but want to try this one, just be forewarned that it isn't her best. Any of the others I've mentioned in this review are better bets to start out.

A Dark Subject But A Good Story Full Of Human Emotion

This is a story about a very dark and serious subject that of rape. There is a rapist on the streets. He only attacks on the night of a full moon and he carves a broken heart onto the chests of his victims. A keepsake for them to remember him by.
Vincent is a detective in the Special Assults Unit of the Seattle police department. He investigates these types of crimes and he is frustrated and getting no where in finding his attacker. Yet every full moon ends up giving him a victim. If his job is not enought to keep him dark and edgy his personal past adds fire to the flames. His ex-wife was unfaithful (more then once and everyone knew about it) and this has left a huge scar on his soul. He trusts no one especially women.
Ivy is a doctor in a trauma unit. She lives in a close knit family and is trusting and dedicated to her job. She is finally ready to take to start dating now that she is done with medical school. She has moved out of her aunt and uncles garage apartment and is moved into a new unit right next door to Vincent.
There first meeting is not the greatest but they can not deny the attraction that they feel for each other. Thinking that it will be easy to avoid each other they go about their individual businesses until the rapist hits again and the victim is sent to Ivy's unit. Vincent is shocked to see Ivy as the attending doctor and can't believe that all of his preconcieved ideas about her are wrong. Not realizing it at the time the rapist has followed the latest victim to the hospital. His "voices" have not been quited this time and he is mad about this until he sees Ivy. She quites his voices and sees her as his good luck charm.
The end result is Ivy is pulled into a situation that has her being attracted to untrusting, dark, brooding man and the object of worship by a rapist.
This is a good book and I feel that Susan Andersen was true to her characterization and her characters by not dismissing out of hand the effects that Vincent's life would have on any type of relationship that he might be involved in. The topic is dark and scary and I feel that she did justice to it. You won't find any of SA trademark humor in the book but I feel that humor would be a out of place. Despite all of this a relationship is formed that is strong and full of emotion. Don't buy this book if you are looking for a light read but DO buy it if you like suspense, romance, and are not afraid of human emotion.

Not Andersen's best, but only because she's that good

The characters were wonderfully developed and the story line was rich. Andersen takes us through the twisted tale of a serial rapist, those whom he is stalking and those who are trying to track him down. It was nice to get a perspective from all three parties.

The serial rapist, who is referred to as Hart, because he carves a heart on all of his victims, becomes infatuated with the ER doctor, Ivy, who saves the life of one of his victims. (He wants his victims to live so that they will remember him and what he did.) When Ivy starts receiving mysterious gifts and puts 2 and 2 together, she realizes that she is now the object of Hart's attention. Enter Det. D'Ambruzzi, the one night stand man who left Ivy with strong feeling of being used. D'Ambruzzi is working on the serial rapist case, while still trying to get over the horrible things his ex-wife put him through. Now he has a hot neighbor next door who is making him feel things he never thought he'd feel again, and a mad man chasing after her.

I definitely recommend this book to romantic suspense readers. If you're new to Andersen, I suggest that you also read some of her newer novels, such as Getting Lucky, All Shook Up, or Head Over Heals. You'll enjoy those even more.

Robert A. Jarrow is Chaired Professor of Finance at Cornell University. Professor Jarrow is among the most distinguished finance scholars of his generation. He is the co-developer of one of the most widely used pricing models in all of finance, the Heath-Jarrow-Morton (HJM) model for pricing interest-rate derivatives. He is the author of two advanced books, Modelling Fixed Income Securities and Interest Rate Options (McGraw, 1996) and Derivative Securities (with Stuart Turnbull, Southwestern, 2000).

Arka Chatterjea (Ph.D. Cornell) is a former student of Robert Jarrow’s and is currently a Research Fellow at the Center for Excellence in Investment Management at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He has taught the derivatives course at Cornell, UNC, University of Colorado at Boulder, and Indiana University, Bloomington.

More than that, the writer offers example after example about how to put theory into practice in working with executive leaders as a coach or consultant. A New Reality in the Persian Gulf

Bob Baer's first book, "See No Evil," was about how the Clinton Administration failed a junior CIA operative (himself) when he had organized a home-grown Iraqi coup of Saddam Hussein. Baer attributed that failing of statecraft to the gutting of intel in the Clinton White House. The implicit argument in "The Devil We Know" is that if we'd have listened to him then, we wouldn't have had to devalue our national image by invading and occupying Iraq.

Baer goes on to make the case that our real enemies are the Sunnis. They are mindless killers and their objectives are nothing more than "confusing the enemy." By contrast, the Shia are peace-loving nationalists who have never killed (caveat: since 1988) anyone with a suicide bomb. Baer makes the case that we should ally with the Shia against the Sunnis. Giving hundreds of pages of evidence that all Shia are controlled (or disclipined) by Iran, the prescription of an alliance with the Shia implies an alliance with Iran.

Baer served his country with distinction and continues to serve it as a political analyst. But there are questions that Baer does not answer here. Perhaps he will in a forthcoming book, but they are unanswered here. Doesn't Islam require all believers to 1) attend mosque, 2) read the Koran, 3) pursue jihad. Doesn't "jihad" mean "struggling against" us, even if they are Shia? Doesn't every Muslim have the obligation to either 1) convert us, 2) extract jizya (humiliating tax) from us, or 3) kill us? Forgive me if I'm oversimplifying things, but I don't think the Shia would shy away from violent jihad against the US simply because we'd abandoned the battlefield. Why wouldn't they take it for weakness and fight all the harder against us?

It may be that the US should be more aware of the distinctions between Shia and Sunny and it may be that the Shia are slightly less homicidal, but reaching out to them as allies? Isn't Iran a theocratic regime that is governed by the Koran and the Hadith (the traditions of the Prophet)? To make a case for Iran as an ally, he has to make the case that a nation which calles us "The Great Satan," and vows to wipe Israel of the map should actually not be taken at its word. It seems reasonable to also ask if Bob Baer hasn't caught at least a mild case of what the State Department calls "clientitis." How is it that only Baer alone has seen the light?

Baer's real message is that, having removed Saddam, we've effectively handed over Iraq to Iran. A done deal. A new reality. Now we have to deal with it. And the scary thing, if you believe Baer, and I do, notwithstanding some misgivings, is that not one single senior policy maker in America knows what you will know after you close the last page of this book. Now that's frightening.

In The Crisis of Islam, renowned Middle East expert and scholar Bernard Lewis writes, "Unlike revolutionary France and Russia, revolutionary Iran lacks the means, the resources, and the skills to become a major world power and threat".

Robert Baer, not an academician but rather a former CIA operative, takes a very different view in The Devil We Know, writing, "What it comes down to is this: Iran is the most powerful and stable country in the Middle East - a country the United States must either fight in a new thirty-year war or come to terms with".

If the Neocons advising the President in the run up to the Iraq war had placed less emphasis on Lewis' theory and more on Baer's practice, the outcome of events there might have been quite different.

The portrait that Baer paints of Iran flies in the face of conventional wisdom.

He writes, for example, that "Iran is not a totalitarian state run by `Islamofascists' who believe they're in some quixotic war with the West and Western civilization. President Ahmadinejad is not intent on starting World War III; he's a figurehead no more able to take Iran to war than Joseph McCarthy was able to take America to war against Communism. Iran's real leaders are rational, pragmatic, and calculating".

The Iranian goals are those of an imperial superpower. They include the following:

* Dominion over surrounding countries either directly or through proxies such as Hamas and Hezbollah;

* A position of dominance in energy markets through control of shipping corridors (strategic pipelines and the Straights of Hormuz) and managing the extraction of its own reserves as well as those of Iraq and other neighboring countries;

* Control of Mecca and Medina, perhaps through a joint administration with Saudi Arabia;

* Recognition, the respect due a superpower, and internal security.

Baer argues that the Iranians are well on the way to achieving these goals, and, again contrary to conventional wisdom, that they do not need nuclear weapons to do so. In fact, one of the books more interesting chapters is entitled "Lethal and Elusive: Why Iran's Weapons and Tactics Make It Unconquerable - Even Without Nukes". In it he describes the military capabilities used by Hezbollah to deliver Israel its first ever military defeat in the Lebanese conflict of 2006. Baer places great emphasis on this writing, "There's a good argument that Iran's modernization of guerilla warfare is a military development as important as the introduction of the machine gun was to World War I or the tank to World War II".

The Iran that is described in The Devil We Know is significantly more dangerous than the caricature that most Americans have espoused. Baer argues that ultimately we will be forced to settle with the mullahs since we surely won't be able to prevail against them.

I learned a lot about the Middle East and Iran. I am dismayed by the way the US deals with the Middle East and wonder why our diplomats and government do not have better insight into the Muslim world.
