He started his career as a programmer in early 90's and is currently working as the head of IT with a reputed group of companies. His areas of interest are web-based development technologies. Prior to this book, he wrote “Create Rapid Web Applications Using Oracle Application Express” (which is listed on Oracle Corporation’s web site) and Implement Oracle Business Intelligence.

The Web Book

The book is a very good starter, I have been coding for over 12 years and needed to get up to speed on a few new items. The book did that. However I did not proof any of the pages or run any of the pages because you cannot down load the code. The address in Chapter 6 is flat wrong and the address in the front of the book requires you to join or pay to down load. So on the surface I give it high marks for easy to read, great descriptions, and excellent layout. However, none of it may work.//I posted the first review after spending about 30 minutes and not being able to download the code. Since then the author has contacted me with the corrected site to download the code and sent a second email making sure that I was able to get the code. All the code I checked worked so I am changing my rating from 1 for no working web site to download the code to 5 for an excellent reference book. Hope to see an error page soon, because regardless how careful you are there are always errors in coding.

Recommended - valuable book.

As far as scripting I'm more involved on the IT side knowing Powershell for IT admin tasks at work.
I'm new to web development and before reading this book I invested time into learning about HTML, CSS and Javascript.
This book does cover those three languages but more so on the back end of web development particularly PHP with MYSQL.
I found it an extremely useful book which gets straight to the technical aspects of how to do things. From learning each of these languages to setting up a website to provide products for customers, the registration process for new users, the purchasing workflow, the admin side of updating products, creating new admin accounts and viewing items purchased by customers and approving them. this is all done using your own machine as a test dev machine and you learn how to set this up as well.
This book shows you everything you need to know to setup a comprehensive backend for a website using PHP and MySQL, its not easy to learn initially but it does make sense as you continue to make progress studying the explanations as its explained very well. So it does require time to learn the code until you get it and then you have a pretty good foundation with understanding both frontend and backend website development.
